Home window shutters: which type is best for you?

Plantation shutters are classic and modern window treatments that never go out of style. Blinds instantly change the style of your home and complement any decor. Blinds add real value to your home, as practical as it is beautiful, and should last a lifetime. They are also an excellent source of insulation for your windows, keeping them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Like any real estate investment, only phenomenal quality plantation shutters will add long-term value and maximize appreciation. Blinds are available in many varieties, including composite wood, real wood, vinyl, and poly.

Composite Wood Blinds combine the warmth and richness of real wood blinds with the durability and performance of Composite Planting Blinds. Cheaper than real wood, they will work well with your family's active lifestyle, as they are resistant to scratches, moisture, and washable, making them less open to environmental effects. Made of a unique wood composite material, usually MDF, it cannot be distinguished from real plantation wood blinds. The dimensions of the blinds vary from 1 7/8 "to 4 1/2". They usually only come in shades of white, but some manufacturers offer wood colors. Composite material tends to yield wide widths, so individual panels can simply be constructed from 30 "to 34" wide

Royal wood plantation shutters are assembled from a multitude of wood types, often basswood, poplar, pine, western red cedar, and knotty or select alder. They can be custom-built to your specifications with frame material options, painted or stained, and grille sizes ranging from 1 1/4 "to 5 1/2". Real wood is lighter and more stable than composite, so larger individual panels can be made in sizes up to 36 "to 50" wide. Real wood is not suitable for very humid areas as some other types of shutters are.

Vinyl shutters are an easy alternative to maintain. They are durable and for those with young children, they offer an option that is easily cleaned. They also handle harsh environments well, such as high humidity areas. The dimensions of the blinds are 2 1/2 ", 3 1/2" and 4 1/2 ". They can be manufactured in wider widths using aluminum reinforcing rods inside. These blinds are hollow and require covers to covering the ends of the components. This may be unappealing to several people.

Poly plantation shutters are made from a solid PVC polymer material that won't chip, crack, warp, or split. They should be coated with a hardened finish to avoid bumps. It is resistant to humidity, fire, and impervious to termites (such as vinyl). Grid sizes are also available in 2 1/2 ", 3 1/2", and 4 1/2 ". Poly has an aluminum tube molded into the components to stiffen wider widths, generally up to 36" wide for a single panel. They look like wooden shutters but only come in shades of white.

The plantation shutters offer excellent energy efficiency. Window shutters not only insulate against extreme temperatures but are also excellent for sound insulation. Roller shutters are an asset that will be evaluated based on the value of your home. Both are beautiful and robust. Blinds should be considered beautiful furniture for your windows. They are absolutely a lifetime investment.
