Plantation shutters are the
result of traditional window covering dating back several centuries. Older
designs were originally implemented as protection from the elements and an easy
way to let light in when you needed it. However, the current use of the plantation shutter has become a more domestic accessory by adding a unique look to your
windows. Blinds are quite versatile, as you can install them in and out of
windows. The shutters can extend the full length of the entire window or you
can install any number to create the desired aesthetic appeal you are looking
for. They are usually made up of many rows of horizontal slats of wood or steel
and are all attached to a central bar that is used to open and close the blinds
in one motion. This particular blind design has a number of useful benefits
that make it an essential part of many homes.

The variable louver configuration
allows you to easily control the amount of light entering the room. Most blinds
have a single adjustable lever that allows you to easily open or close the
blinds.
Depending on the type of shutter
you buy, you can use them for everything from sun protection to total exclusion
of weather conditions for more climate prone areas. The trick knows why you
want to use them and buy the weather-resistant steel blinds or perhaps the
thinnest slats for a slightly more delicate look.
A previous use for blinds was to
create an additional layer of insulation between the room and the glass window.
Normally, you would use a set of curtains to set the tone for a given room and
the blinds would add to that, but if you have that extra layer on the inside or
outside of the glass; it creates an additional barrier against outside
elements. Heat indoors and leaving them open in summer allows good air circulation
in and out of the room during the day and night.
